Party Like it's 1999

I woke up this morning, ready to write my column, and Prince was singing in my head.

"I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray."

For the first time since my weird Prince phase I went through when I was in middle school, I read the lyrics behind "1999." Turns out, it's possibly the most morbid song. You probably knew that and I'm just now catching on.

Also this morning, I'm coming to you from my new reading chair. On an impatient whim yesterday, I decided I needed a new reading chair. After going near-everywhere, I found one of those wicker round ones atin Kennesaw. The reading chair combined with my blanket and heating pad makes me ultimately a Hot Pocket right now.

We're t-minus six days to Christmas.

Kim Jong Il, leader of North Korea, died at 69. From what I've read this morning, they called him "Dear Leader." I know very little about North Korea, mostly what I've learned from hearing Lisa Ling interviews about how you can't bring fashion magazines in to the country.

I knew he was a dictator, a communist and wouldn't let anyone know anything about his country. I knew there was a famine. Now his son is taking over and commentaries I've read this morning are saying that he will be more strict on policies than his father was and that he's just not ready to rule.

According to Huffington Post, he also wore platform shoes and a permed bouffant.

Changing gears, the Lindsay Lohan Playboy shots are making record-breaking sales. Really? Isn't she still wearing that alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet?

Our calendar is wormy even though there are a lot of Christmas events theoretically going on. Maybe there aren't. Maybe everyone is just kind of hurrying through the motions this year.
