
I was going to start my resolution early this year. I got this book about how to achieve your goals and it said you need to measure your progress quantitatively rather than just guessing how far along you are. My goal is to lose 10 pounds, so I got a scale to measure the amount Iβve actually lost.
I was going to start Friday, enough time to lose Christmas weight but still an accurate measure. But then, Thursday night I had a dream that I stepped on my new scale and it registered, gulp, 248 pounds.
Keep in mind, Iβm 5-foot-3. Anything more than 150 pounds would be unhealthy, much less 248.

So, I postponed the scale until Sunday when I can get an honest start on the new year.
I kept my resolution from last year. and I really did. I can now run three milesβsomething that was out of the question 365 days ago. I ran a 12-minute mile earlier this yearβsomething I could never do and was the bane of my existence in the fifth grade.

This year, Iβm a little more prepared for my goal. I have minor goals, have isolated the potential setbacks and have made it a competition with my mom to see who can lose 10 pounds first. The loser has to buy the winner dinner, ironically enough.
So, hereβs to 2012 and being Be careful tonight, yβall. A lot of people will not heed our advice about not drinking and driving even though itβs stupid to drink and drive. Donβt text and drive either. Just be careful.
