Candidate Debate Set For Oct. 9 In Johns Creek

Student Leadership Johns Creek members will host the debate for the House District 50 candidates.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Nine Student Leadership Johns Creek members are in the midst of planning a debate for the candidates running in the election to fill the Georgia House District 50 seat.

The debate will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Northview High School. A candidate meet-and-greet kicks off the evening at 6:30 p.m., with the debate scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Democrat Angelika Kausche and Republican Kelly Stewart will answer questions from student moderators on issues facing the state and Johns Creek.

The nine students, who represent high schools in Johns Creek, were recently named to represent the city as members of the Secretary of State Ambassadors Program. They attended a Sept. 6 kick-off with their peers at the World Congress Center where they were trained in how to register Georgians to vote and engage voter participation in future elections.

In April, Secretary of State Ambassadors from Student Leadership Johns Creek were crowned state champions in a competition that included nearly 200 school groups statewide. The students hosted the first ever student-led candidate debate in the state when they completely organized and facilitated a candidate debate for Johns Creek Mayor and City Council candidates. In addition to being recognized by Secretary of State Brian Kemp for their victory, they received a commendation from Governor Nathan Deal and a proclamation from the Johns Creek City Council.
