Why are you seeking elective office?

As a resident of Johns Creek, I am seeking elective office because I care about the future of our city. For nearly four decades, I have invested my gifts and talents in community and civic engagement, including public service. It would be my pleasure to bring my life experiences to help make Johns Creek better for us all.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

In my opinion, the single most pressing issue facing our city is the disunity as to how we sustain the future of Johns Creek. The City of Johns Creek has an esteemed reputation for incredibly ranked schools, low crime rates, a strong economy, top jobs, as well as diverse tribal demographics. While we are proud of these accomplishments, we must not rest on our laurels. Johns Creek is at a critical juncture in which some are fighting to maintain the current status quo while others are calling for noticeable changes. The uniqueness of who we are should not confound our needed development. With just days away from electing a new City Council, there is risk of decelerating years of discussions and decisions that have led to much-needed progress. We cannot allow ourselves to digress from the diligent progress made.

I will bring forward-thinking leadership that is resolute in ensuring that we move forward with plans to address infrastructure improvements as an expected essential and that all stakeholders’ views are valued. Recognizing the need for smart growth is paramount in ensuring the long-term benefits of our great city. Working together we can find commonalities with all stakeholders, internally and externally, to develop major projects like the Town Center so that we can grow an exceptionally improved Johns Creek.

What are your short- and long-term goals if you are elected?

If elected, my short- and long-term goals would be to continue with the City Council's 2018 adopted Comprehensive Plan as a guide for future growth in Johns Creek for the next ten years. I will work to goal ensure that we remain focused on the successful completions of our plan, and collaborate with all stakeholders to protect the intrinsic value of our city.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

The critical differences between myself and the other candidates seeking this post are, I am the only candidate running for Post 3 with experience as I have been formerly elected to the DeKalb County School Board. As we seek to improve Johns Creek, we need experienced leadership that understands Policy Governance to ensure that we govern according to our agreed values as we actively move towards reaching our goals.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)?

How do you think local officials performed in responding to the coronavirus? What if anything would you have done differently?

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

As a former school board chairwoman, I know the importance of good leadership, proper oversight, budgeting, vision casting, transparency, and community relations. My experience of working closely with county and state government, private entities, and business communities would be of great value to ensuring a better Johns Creek.

What do you like best about living in your city (or county)?

The best advice ever shared with me was:

The best advice I've received is to "treat others the way you would like to be treated".

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I would like for the voters in Johns Creek to know how deeply I care about community and have worked throughout my life to give back in such a way that makes a difference. My passion is to serve. Above all, as a Christian, I take great pride in my values and am committed to serve with the highest level of integrity, experience, commitment, excellence, transparency, honesty, fairness, and accountability.
