Having previously served on the House Education Committee during his time in office, Hilton stressed the importance of providing parents with a voice in their child’s education.
"There's still so much work that needs to be done to ensure that your tax-dollars follow your student," he said. "I believe the healthiest environment for a student is in the classroom. Therefore, if your child’s school closes, a parent should be able to take their education dollars elsewhere. It’s time we place our students above rigid bureaucracy. We must also pay greater attention to school curriculum and have increased transparency into the values being taught to our children."
Improving public safety in the north metro area is another part of his platform.
"People love our neighborhoods, as residents enjoy the peace of mind knowing that they can live, work, learn and play in a safe atmosphere.” Hilton said. "As the parent of a new-driver, signs of illegal street-racing at intersections, car break-ins and DUIs are very concerning. In the State House, I will be a constant advocate for our local police and will always look for new ways to provide them with the valuable resources they need to do their job effectively," Hilton said.
He said he has spent a career helping small businesses flourish and plans to continue this work as a member of Georgia’s Legislature.
“As the husband of a small-business owner, I witnessed firsthand the impact of business closures and school shutdowns," Hilton said. "My candidacy is fueled by those dinner table conversations, trying to navigate our family through a global pandemic. Through this process, all of us have learned the importance of electing leaders who can protect both lives and livelihoods. We must elect leaders who are serious about growing our economy through cutting taxes, reducing burdensome mandates, and fighting for our small business owners.”
Hilton serves as Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking for SouthState Bank having previously worked as Executive Director for the Georgians First Commission.
He and his wife, Meredith, raise their three children in Peachtree Corners, where they have lived for over a decade. Hilton and his family are active members of Perimeter Church in Johns Creek.
Hilton serves in leadership roles for the local Fowler Family YMCA, the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), and the Wesleyan School. He is a graduate of Leadership Georgia and holds bachelor's degree in finance from Georgetown University and a master's degree in business from Emory University.
