Here are the top three stories today in and around Johns Creek:
- Monique Clark, 31, a detention officer of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, has been fired and arrested after being accused of using excessive force in the process of an inmate exchange between Fulton Co. Jail and Alpharetta police. The incident, which took place on Jun. 5, was recorded by the body-worn cameras of the Alpharetta officers, and Clark was fired shortly thereafter. Clark has been charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and violation of oath by a public officer, as well as a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct, per Fulton Sheriff Pat Labatt. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- The City of Johns Creek is actively seeking volunteers for their upcoming Juneteenth Celebration at Newtown Park on Saturday, Jun. 17, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Various volunteer positions are available, such as assisting vendors, greeting attendees, supporting food vendors, helping at the art center, and providing assistance during performances. Sign up and learn more about available positions here. (City of Johns Creek via Twitter)
- Nearby Sandy Springs residents are settling in to a year's worth of detours and delays as a consequence of work on the Georgia 400 to repair several bridges. Pitts Roads Bridge is among those repairs and will remain closed for a year after the commencement of repairs, which began on Monday, Jun. 12. The expected completion date for renovations in April of 2024, and a rundown of the ongoing detours can be found at the link. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
