Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- A man is currently facing charges in a SWAT stand-off that occurred the afternoon of Sunday, Jun. 18 down the road in Gwinnett County. Law enforcement arrived on the scene at a home in nearby Grayson shortly after noon and learned that a man in the home was already dead, and another, 19-year-old Christian Houston, was holed up inside. A SWAT standoff with more than 20 officers ensued, including the use of K-9s and robots, ultimately leading to Houston's arrest; he is being charged with felony murder for the man's death. (11 Alive)
- A water boil advisory initiated Sunday, Jun. 18, in nearby Sandy Springs is in limbo, as of Monday morning city officials were beginning to report the return of normal water pressure conditions. A 48-inch transmission main on Riverside Road in the vicinity of Don White Memorial Park that needed urgent repairs was the culprit of the water boil order, and overnight work by city staff and the Atlanta Watershed led to the replacement of defective parts. As of Monday afternoon, the boil advisory is still in effect. (11 Alive)
- Two finalists are currently vying to be the firms in charge of rebuilding the I-285, I-20 interchange west of the Atlanta city center, known as one of the worst freight bottlenecks in the country. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) intends to replace the interchange's existing exit ramps, add new lanes, and widen or entirely replace a number of bridges in the area, with the total price tag expected to be roughly $1.45 billion.
