Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- Johns Creek Police Department Officer Shy'Keya Wimberly is now a four-time gold medalist in the USA Police and Fire Championships, held this year in San Diego, California. The USA Police and Fire Championships include not just police and firefighters but also corrections and probation officers, border protection agents, customs agents, and more. Per JCPD, Wimberly - who represented the entire state of Georgia as well as the City of Johns Creek - won gold medals in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, and 400 hurdles events. (WSB Atlanta)
- A Johns Creek woman living in the Abbotts Station subdivision was visited by a bear on her back porch this past weekend. Bear sightings have also been reported in Johns Creek in the Seven Oaks subdivision, along the McGinnis Ferry Corridor, as well as in Roswell. Wildlife and law enforcement officials have not clarified whether they believe the sightings to be the same bear or not. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Rapper YFN Lucci has rejected a plea deal from the Fulton County district attorney's (DA) office offered in connection to his 2021 arrest on gang activity charges, choosing to go to trial instead. Lucci, also known as Rashawn Bennett, was arrested as part of an indictment including 12 people that Fulton County officials and broader national law enforcement organizations claim to be affiliated with the national Bloods gang. Lucci's attorneys have criticized DA Fani Willis' office, implying that the DA's office has been delaying Lucci's trial. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
