Crews are slated to pave 8.5 miles in 16 neighborhoods and 3.3 miles of main roads in Johns Creek this year.
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — This spring, the Johns Creek Public Works Department launches its fifth consecutive year of repaving the city’s neighborhood streets.
Crews are slated to pave 8.5 miles in 16 neighborhoods and 3.3 miles of main roads this year. A repaving schedule is available on the city’s website. The schedule is subject to change due to weather and availability of additional crews.
The original five-year Neighborhood Repaving program was completed in four years from 2015-18. After a pavement condition study was conducted in 2018, a new list was created for subdivisions to be resurfaced over the next five years from 2019-24.

The physical survey of city streets revealed that many of them had a substandard Pavement Quality Index (PQI). The PQI is a 1-100 scale developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to measure cracking, potholes, rutting, weathering and other factors. Low PQI scores reflect a lower condition of the pavement. The lower the PQI score, the higher the priority within the repaving schedule. The city is resurfacing all roads below a PQI score of 70.
Since 2015, the City has repaved 107 subdivisions. The City increased funding for the project from $1.5 million to $5 million in 2016 in an effort to accelerate the repaving program timeline by a year, completing a 5-year paving in four years. As of 2016, 65.43 miles of residential roads have been repaved.
