Johns Creek Police To Host Drug Take-Back Day

Residents can dispose of unwanted prescription medications on Oct. 27 at Target on State Bridge Road.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Johns Creek officers on Saturday will give you a chance to get rid of unwanted and unused drugs taking up space in your cabinets. The agency will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take Back Day, which is set for Oct. 27.

Johns Creek police will be accepting prescription medications for safe, convenient and responsible disposing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Target at 5950 State Bridge Road. The program is used to educate the public about the potential for abuse of these medications if they languish in a person's home.

According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, the DEA states on its website. A majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. These drug take back events are designed to prevent drug addiction and deaths from overdose.
