Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. It appears negotiations have reached an impasse after the second round of local option sales tax (LOST) negotiations between Fulton County and its 15 cities, including Johns Creek, on Oct. 7. Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts said the county will not back down from getting a greater share of the LOST revenue. Alpharetta Mayor Jim Gilvin said the county refuses to budge "and they are not negotiating in good faith." (Appen Media)
  2. Violence is escalating at the Fulton County Jail due to extreme overcrowding. On Oct. 10, Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat said, "In the last sixty days, there have been sixty-four stabbings." This upcoming Monday, Oct. 17, the Atlanta City Council will consider the sheriff's request to move some Fulton County inmates to the nearly empty Atlanta jail. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  3. The Johns Creek Police Department is reminding residents that October is Pedestrian Safety Month. Pedestrian injuries and fatalities remain high, according to the department. In 2020, 6,516 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 55,000 pedestrians were injured nationwide. (Johns Creek Police Department via Twitter)
