Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- Autrey Mill Nature Preserve's Visitor Center in Johns Creek has opened a new wildlife rehabilitation clinic led by Jess Legato, 26, the education program manager and clinic director. The clinic provides care and temporary housing for injured wildlife in the area, which is experiencing a high population due to habitat fragmentation caused by development. Legato's goal is to rehabilitate and release the animals back into the wild, and she emphasizes the importance of wildlife rehabilitation. (Appen Media)
- Johns Creek City Council members are moving forward with tax plans for next year, although how city and county taxes will be handled for the fiscal year 2023 and headed into the future is still unclear. Per Fulton County officials, homeowners whose property values have risen may pay a higher tax bill if Johns Creek's new city tax rate is approved, and the city council has another two months to put together more information on how much a tax levy would generate in revenue, at the same time as Fulton County works to assess property values for the past fiscal year. - Johns Creek seniors, as well as seniors throughout the Atlanta metro area and statewide, can receive assistance from Atlanta Gas Light (AGL). Customers with past due balances who have previously been enrolled in AGL's Senior Citizen Discount Program could receive a portion of grant funding. The forgiveness program is made possible by grant funding from the AGL and the Salvation Army of Georgia's SHARE Division Project. AGL President and Chief Executive Officer Pedro Cherry said, "We recognize the extraordinary burden our customers have faced with inflation and have worked incredibly hard to expand our bill payment assistance capabilities because all our customers deserve reliable and affordable natural gas."(Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
