Child Left in Hot Car in Kennesaw

The child's mother was arrested and the child was placed in state custody, police said.

A Powder Springs woman was arrested and charged with reckless conduct and drug offenses after she left her child inside a car at a Kennesaw shopping center Wednesday afternoon, police said Thursday.

Police were dispatched to the shopping center at the corner of Cobb Parkway and Mack Dobbs Road at approximately noon Wednesday in reference to a child being left alone in a vehicle, department spokesman Ofc. Scott Luther said. Officers made contact with the child’s mother, Sashay Jordan, and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Once they had access to the vehicle, officers discovered a “misdemeanor amount” of marijuana in Jordan’s car and arrested her, Luther said. She has been charged with reckless conduct and misdemeanor marijuana possession. The child was placed in the care of DEFACS.
