Cobb Launches Open Records Portal

BREAKING: Beginning on March 28, Cobb residents can request public documents via the county's new open records platform.

KENNESAW, GA -- Thanks to new technology, life just got easier for six county records custodians that handle more than 20,300 requests for public documents each year, as well as Cobb residents.

A new software program now allows residents to quickly gain access to some open records via an online portal.

The program, launched by the Cobb Attorney’s Office, will direct users to a new webpage on the county's website and prompt them to set up an online profile to submit inquiries.

“We are very pleased to provide access to open records through this new software,” County Attorney Deborah Dance said in a statement. “We strongly believe in the value and necessity of transparency in government, and this new tool allows us to be more efficient and responsive and improve on our former practices.”

Each request can be tracked and users will receive a notification once their document is ready for download.

"With this system, we have the capability to be proactive in a way that was previously unavailable,” Dance said. “We can actually push information out to individuals who have identified themselves as having a particular interest in a certain topic.”

The program became available on Wednesday, March 29.
