Driver Charged With Homicide In Kennesaw Crash That Killed Juvenile
Police said the juvenile was crossing Ben King Road with others at the time of the fatal crash.
KENNESAW — A 68-year-old Powder Springs man is in jail after being accused of hitting and killing a juvenile who was walking across a crosswalk in a group Friday at Ben King Road, Cobb County Police said Monday.
Police said the crash happened around 8:15 p.m., when the man was driving a red 2017 GMC Acadia east on Ben King, nearing the marked crosswalk.
A group of juveniles were crossing Ben King, where the GMC crashed into one of them and caused the person to be projected into a wooded area on the shoulder, police said.

The juvenile was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition, police said early Monday. Police then confirmed to Patch the juvenile, who has not been identified, has since died.
The GMC driver, identified by police as Jerome L. Cox, was not injured in the crash and was arrested at the scene, police said.

Cox is being charged on suspicion of first-degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, driver must use care to avoid pedestrian and willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, according to Cobb County Jail records. Cox is being held without bond.
