Kennesaw State Student Wins Marathon

Harrison alum Nathan O'Connell is the first winner of the Savannah Rock 'n' Roll Marathon.

junior Nathan O'Connell won the inaugural Savannah Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Kennesaw man and alumnus finished the race in two hours, 29 minutes, five seconds, the Savannah Morning News reported. He was almost five minutes ahead of the second-place runner.

O'Connell started running only in his sophomore year at Kennesaw State and never for any team, he told the Morning News.

He wasn't the only man from the area who succeeded in Savannah.

Reuben Mwei, 25, of Acworth won the concurrent half-marathon, the Morning News reported.

Mwei is originally from Kenya and ran for Adams State College in Colorado, the newspaper said.

He finished the 13.1 miles in 1:04:08.
