At its Sept. 3 meeting, the Kennesaw City Council approved a plan to outsource the city’s sanitation collection services. City staff will continue to bill for services, collect payment and address customer service issues.
The final agreement will be presented to Mayor & Council for ratification at the Sept. 16 meeting.
The initiative to explore outsourcing came as a result of a recommendation from the City Manager, Public Works Director and the Citizens Advisory Committee.
A Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued in May and the due process resulted in the selection of Republic Services, Inc. as the vendor.
“The cost savings we realize by outsourcing collection services will be designated for updating and replacing our aging stormwater system,” said City Manager Steve Kennedy.

Republic Services will purchase the majority of the city’s sanitation fleet as well as the inventory of trash and recycle containers, and will also conduct a Job Fair for any of the current sanitation workers that wish to be considered for employment.
“We are confident that our customers will continue to receive the same high quality of sanitation service they now receive and the change will appear seamless,” said Earnie Via, Public Works Director.
