Kennesaw Woman Indicted on Theft Charge

Two women have been indicted on charges of taking tens of thousands of dollars from their employers, and one of them is from Kennesaw.

The cases of 55-year-old Annette Evans of Kennesaw and 48-year-old Patty Holmes of Mableton are not related, Kim Isaza, the spokeswoman for Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds, said this afternoon.

One indictment, handed down on April 11, alleges that Evans diverted more than $170,000 from her employer, Thomas Concrete, to her own accounts between May 2008 and January 2010. She was employed as the administrative assistant to the fleet manager at Thomas.

Evans was arrested Sept. 21, 2011, and is free on bond.

If convicted of the charge of theft by taking, she could face a maximum of 20 years in prison.

The other indictment, also handed down on April 11, alleges that Holmes advanced herself $172,733 by adding the money to her paychecks, which were direct-deposited into her personal bank accounts. She then used her work computer to alter the company’s books and hide the theft. This went on from September 2010 until December 2011, when Holmes was the payroll manager at HyperBar_xs, according to the indictment.

Holmes was arrested April 26, 2012, and is free on bond.

Holmes is charged with theft by taking and computer forgery. If convicted of both charges, she could face a maximum of 35 years in prison and a $150,000 fine.

No arraignment date has been set in either case.
