KSU Awards Nearly $80,000 in Scholarships

New standards in applicants and money awarded

The College of Continuing and Professional Education has announced it has awarded nearly $80,000 in scholarships for 2015. As a result, the College has reached new standards in applicants (158), recipients (115) and money awarded.

“We are thrilled to assist individuals in achieving their goals,” said Barbara S. Calhoun, dean of the college. “Every time you walk into a classroom, you increase your options. Education opens doors to more choices in life.”

Of those applying for certificate-based programs, 28 students were awarded scholarships for the following courses: Certified Nursing Assistant, Culinary Apprenticeship, Human Resources Management SHRM-CP/SHRM-
SCP, Medical Assisting, Gerontology, Meeting & Event Management, Paralegal, Pharmacy Technician, Project Management, Real Estate Property Management and Social Media Marketing.

Kerry Ruthsatz, who received a Barbara S. Calhoun Scholarship for Medical Assisting, said, “I’m very honored to receive this scholarship. It will allow me to attend school to become a certified medical assistant after more than 20 years working as an EMT and then a paramedic. I’m very grateful to KSU for awarding me this opportunity.”

Additionally, 62 scholarships were awarded to students of the College’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) which serves seasoned adults ages 50 and older. The scholarships will be used on a variety of programs that cover technology, art, music, finances, fitness, languages and history.

Scholarship donors include Al & Chet Scholarship, Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County, YMCA Kickers, Atherton Place, Hear-Rite, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, The Barnes Law Group, WellStar Good Life Club, Keller Williams Realty Southeast Region, Walton Nursing & Hospice Services, Esther Romanoff Kazer Literacy Program and Larry Lowenstein Scholarship.

Applications for 2016 will be posted next April. Further scholarship information can be found at ccpe.kennesaw.edu.
