KSU Student Wins Prestigious Scholarship From Google

Déjà Tyla Jackson, a computer science major, is one of only 20 female college students chosen for the Women Techmakers Scholars Program.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Kennesaw State University student has won a prestigious scholarship from Google, Patch has learned. Déjà Tyla Jackson, a computer science major, is one of only 20 female college students chosen for the Women Techmakers Scholars Program, a Google initiative designed to create gender equality in the field of computer science.

The program, formerly called the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship Program, encourages women in tech to excel and become role models in computer science. “To be recognized as a scholar by such a reputable company is amazing and it is a real honor to be granted this award,” Déjà said in a KSU news release. “I tried for this scholarship because I wanted to push myself and not be scared of possible rejection.”

In addition to the $10,000 Techmakers scholarship, Déjà is preparing herself to excel outside the classroom as well. This summer, she will be in Maryland, where she'll work for the Department of Defense at a 12-week internship.

She also earned a$25,000 Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship, a program supported by the Department of Defense.
