Official: "Employee Error" Results in Dept. of Labor Security Breach
The Georgia Department of Labor says a document with names and social security numbers of customers was emailed to about 1,000 people, primarily in Cherokee and Cobb Counties.

The Georgia Department of Labor says an "employee error" caused sensitive information from thousands of its customers to be disseminated via email.
The department said a document containing the information, which includes names and social security numbers of 4,457 customers from its Cobb-Cherokee Career Center, was emailed to about 1,000 people.

The Georgia Department of Labor's Cobb-Cherokee Career Center is at 465 Big Shanty Rd in northeast Cobb County.
The document was distributed to people "primarily" in Cobb and Cherokee Counties, said department spokesperson Ed Hall, adding "employee error" was behind the mishap.

The department has notified the recipients of the document and has "instructed them to immediately delete the file attached to the email without opening it," he added.
"The department will provide free credit monitoring services to all of the people affected," Hall stated.
