PICS: Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal Read To Preschoolers -- And They Had A Ball
Schoolchildren enjoy it when adults read to them, especially when it's the first lady of Georgia.
KENNESAW, GA -- Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal has been traveling across the state reading to pre-K students to draw attention to the literacy rate among Georgia's children and to promote the joys of reading.
Deal made an appearance at the Goddard School in Kennesaw last week to read to preschoolers as part of a literacy initiative.
While Deal got a chance to read to the children, they also got to share with her: They serenaded Georgia's first lady with a song, which she greatly enjoyed.

“Learning to read is a language skill that has been proven to increase the quality of life, especially when it is developed at an early age,” Deal said in a statement earlier this month.

“Our goal is for every Georgian to have the literacy skills necessary to provide for themselves and their families. By modeling and engaging with students, I hope to encourage children to want to learn to read for themselves. Knowledge is power and we want to give them the confidence to acquire that power,” she said.
The initiative is in honor of Read Across Georgia Month and encourages giving to those in need.
