KENNESAW, GA -- Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal will make an appearance at the Goddard School in Kennesaw on Friday to read to preschoolers as part of a literacy initiative. The program is in honor of Read Across Georgia Month and promotes giving to those in need. Deal has been traveling across the state reading to pre-K students to help improve the literacy rate among Georgia's children. "Learning to read is a language skill that has been proven to increase the quality of life, especially when it is developed at an early age," Deal said in a statement earlier this month. "Our goal is for every Georgian to have the literacy skills necessary to provide for themselves and their families. By modeling and engaging with students, I hope to encourage children to want to learn to read for themselves. Knowledge is power and we want to give them the confidence to acquire that power."
