Smith-Gilbert Gardens to Host Hummingbird Banding Event

In addition to the banding activity, there will be bird watching, food, plants for sale, and a craft for children.

Kennesaw’s Smith-Gilbert Gardens is conducting its third annual hummingbird banding event on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 8-11 a.m., hosted by Julia Eliot from Bird Watcher Supply.

Eliot received her federal Master Permit to band hummingbirds in 2010, and a Master Permit to band all other species the following year. As she bands birds, she keeps a non-stop stream of commentary going.

In addition to the banding activity, professional bird watcher Pat Pepper will be holding court on the back porch of the Hiram Butler House.

Jackie Belwood, a Biology teacher at Georgia Highlands, will be sharing information about pollinators.
