Gwinnett Jury Convicts 2 In Fatal Shooting Of DeKalb Store Owner
The four people tracked the DeKalb store owner to his Gwinnett home, where they robbed and fatally shot him, prosecutors say.
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Two suspected gang members were convicted of targeting a DeKalb County check-cashing store owner and shooting him to death at his Gwinnett County home, prosecutors said Monday.
A jury on Friday found Daquan Rashad Clarke, 37, and Troy Anthony Hunt, 44, guilty of murder and other charges, Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson's office said. Prosecutors alleged they are members of the Goodfellas criminal street gang.
Clarke and Hunt were two of four people accused in the fatal shooting.

Prosecutors said a third man died on Sept. 6, 2021 of a suspected fentanyl and Xylazine overdose at the Gwinnett County Detention Center, and a fourth suspect accused of belonging to MOB remains at large. The person was not identified.
With the help of Clarke’s girlfriend, 38-year-old Subriccia S. Moss, prosecutors said the group followed 55-year-old Sukkee Hong home from work and killed him at his Sugar Hill home.

Hong's check-cashing store was one of several businesses they intended to rob in 2019, prosecutors said.
Moss testified to buying a tracking device for Clarke from the internet and entering Hong's store to distract him while Clarke placed the tracker on Hong's car, prosecutors said.
She was a lookout on Oct. 4, 2019, the day Hong was killed, and told the defendants when Hong left the store, prosecutors said.
Moss' testimony came after she pled guilty to armed robbery and aggravated assault, being sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years on probation, prosecutors said.
After arriving at Hong's home the night he was killed, prosecutors said two of the four people followed Hong into his garage while Clarke and another man waited in separate getaway cars.
Surveillance video played during the trial showed two men with red bandanas covering their faces leave the garage after the sound of gunfire, prosecutors said.
Documents and a cell phone were taken from Hong's car at the time, prosecutors said.
Clarke, Hunt and a third man was found to be at the home through cell phone data and DNA evidence, prosecutors said.
A jury found Clarke and Hunt guilty of two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and four counts of violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, prosecutors said.
Hunt was additionally convicted of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, prosecutors said. Both Clarke and Hunt will later be sentenced.
“We stand with the family and loved ones of Mr. Sukke Hong and continue to grieve his loss,” Austin-Gatson said in a news release. “We thank the jury for returning a verdict which gives Mr. Hong’s family justice. Violent gang activity is unacceptable in Gwinnett County, and we will always hold those who commit crimes like these accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
