Gwinnett County Jail Has High Standards

On September 21, 2012 the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare awarded accreditation to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office for its compliance with NCCHC “Standards for Health Services in Jails”. A team of five clinical professionals spent four days reviewing the medical and mental health services delivery program at the Gwinnett County Jail for their accreditation.  The health care system analysis included but was not limited to, a review of medical policies and procedures, interviews with inmates, health care workers and deputies along with a detailed inspection of medical records. 

The National Commission on Correctional Healthcare was founded almost 30 years ago and is a private, non-profit organization that grants public recognition to correctional institutions that meet its nationally accepted standards for healthcare delivery.  “Accreditation benefits the health of the inmates and staff as well as the general public by assuring that those incarcerated and released receive timely and appropriate healthcare”, Sheriff Conway stated. 

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office worked closely with Corizon Health, the health care provider at the Gwinnett County Jail for two years to review all internal procedures in the healthcare delivery system to assure compliance with the standards prior to the audit.  “I want to thank my staff and the medical professionals at Corizon Health for their hard work and dedication to this goal we set for ourselves some time ago”, Conway further stated.  As a result, the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare final report showed the Gwinnett County Jail was 100% compliant.
