16-Year-Old Wounded in Officer-Involved Shooting Near GGC (Updated)

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is taking the lead role in the investigation of an officer-involved shooting of a 16-year-old Wednesday in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett Police said officers responded to a domestic dispute call at the Sugar Mill Apartments, located at 855 Walther Boulevard in unincorporated Lawrenceville, where the officers were confronted in the parking lot by the teenager with a knife.

This is in an area just south of the Georgia Gwinnett College campus near Ga. 316 and Collins Hill Road.

“The male ignored numerous verbal commands to drop the knife as he advanced towards officers,” Gwinnett Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Deon Washington said in a media update. “Officers created a substantial amount of distance between themselves and the suspect. The suspect closed that distance and was shot by police.”

The teen was taken to an area hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.

“The GBI has responded to the scene and has assumed the lead role in the investigation,” Washington added. “As the investigation unfolds, additional information will be released.”

Gwinnett County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon at Sugar Mill Apartments located at 707 Treecreek Parkway in Lawrenceville, according to a news alert from Cpl. Deon Washington.

The GBI has been notified and are responding to the scene.

This is in an area south of the Georgia Gwinnett College campus near Ga. 316 and Collins Hill Road.
