Convicted Gwinnett Rapist Sexually Abused Women For 9 Years: D.A.
The 52-year-old man was convicted of sexually abusing two women from ages 12-21 in separate Lawrenceville homes.
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A 52-year-old man was convicted of rape and other charges after being accused of sexually assaulting two women since they were children, the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office said.
A jury on Tuesday found Catalino Avilez-Carteno guilty of five counts of rape, five counts of aggravated sexual battery, four counts of child molestation, two counts of aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation and aggravated assault, the district attorney's office said.
Avilez-Carteno was accused of repeatedly raping and sexually abusing the women from the time they were ages 12-21. The district attorney's office said the abuse occurred at two different Lawrenceville homes.

When the women reported Avilez-Carteno during his alleged drunken rage, the district attorney's office said he tried to stab a family member in front of them.
The trial against Avilez-Carteno spanned a week, during which the women testified they did not consent to the abuse, the district attorney's office said.

“We pray that the justice brought from this verdict will aid in their healing from this abuse,” Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said in a news release.
Avilez-Carteno will be sentenced Thursday.
