Five Forks Trickum Road Reopens, Gas Leak Under Control

UPDATE: Gas Leak Under Control, Road Reopened

The gas leak outside on Fire Forks Trickum Road, SW and Rosehill Lane is now under control. Atlanta Gas Light was able to stop the leak at 2:44pm. The roadway was reopened at 2:50pm. All fire equipment has returned to service. The scene was turned over to the gas company to continue making repairs on the ruptured line. There were no evacuations and no injuries reported. Gwinnett County police assisted with traffic control during the incident as firefighters monitored air quality readings and protected gas company workers. “We are fortunate to have the roadway reopened before the evening commute,” said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge. The emergency crew from AGL was challenged by having to dig in multiple locations in order to clamp the line and bring the situation under control.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Firefighters are currently on the scene of a natural gas leak outside on Five Forks Trickum Road, SW and Rosehill Lane in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

Firefighters arrived to find an odor of gas and an active leak at a subdivision construction site. A work crew struck an approximate 4-inch gas line while digging. An emergency crew from Atlanta Gas Light is on the scene and is working to stop the leak. Firefighters have a hose line on the ground to protect gas company workers. The Fire Department’s hazmat unit is on the scene assessing air quality readings in nearby storm drains.

The windy conditions are readily dissipating the gas vapors and there are no evacuations and no immediate exposure hazards. Five Forks Trickum Road is closed from Arnold Road to Emerald Forest Circle.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the leak is brought under control. There are no injuries reported.
