Gwinnett School Mourns Loss Of Principal's Family Members

A school's assistant principal lost his ex-wife and two children in a fatal crash that happened Sunday, in Tennessee.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — As Richards Middle School faculty and teachers are getting ready to go back to school, they are mourning the loss of some close family members.

The school's assistant principal lost his ex-wife and two children in a fatal crash that happened on Interstate 75 south, in Tennessee Sunday.

Bachmas was reportedly planning to marry his fiancé July 14.

Ben Bachman's ex-wife was returning to Georgia from a family trip in Michigan with his three children as tragedy struck. The 2014 Dodge Caravan the family were traveling in hit a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.

“Please keep Mr. Bachman and his family in your thoughts and send your love his way,” school employees said in a Facebook post. “We are heartbroken for his loss.”

Highway patrol reports said the tractor-trailer came to a stop in traffic and the van hit it from behind. Rebecca Bachman, 42, Lauren Bachman, 15, and Daniel Bachman, 13, were killed in the crash, according the highway patrol.

The Bachman's third child, Jake, 10, was injured in the accident. He is reportedly recovering at a hospital in Tennessee.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Bachman family, which has collected $20,274 of the $25,000 goal, as of Friday afternoon. GoFundMe reports that 408 people raised the money in just two days

There were no other injuries in the accident. Everyone involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, according to highway patrol report.
