Kohl's is recognizing local youth for their commitment to community service, and there are three local store winners from Lawrenceville
Both now receive a $50 gift card and a certificate from Kohl’s honoring their volunteerism. The youth now will vie for $1,000 regional scholarship awards from the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program.
From the regional winners, 10 national winners will be selected and each will receive a total of $10,000 in scholarships. Kohl’s will then donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.
The local store winners in Lawrenceville are
- Wynter Bayne, 11: Wynter donates a hat or scarf to someone in need for every hat or scarf she sold through her business, Live.Laugh.LoveYarn!
- Juliana Carey, 12: Juliana initated a fun way in our local neighborhood to have a food drive for the St. Vincent dePaul Society's local food pantry. She came up with the idea of "Caroling for a Cause" and organized a group of young teens and preteens in the neighborhood to go around during the holiday season and sing Christmas carols while handing out information on the food pantry and asking for donations.
- Jeffrey Ojwang, 18: In fourth grade, Jeffrey started collecting toys, books, clothes, shoes and old computers and coordinated with his church to send these items to Kenya to help children in need.
