Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter Hosts Inaugural Masquerade Ball

Lawrenceville, GA – November 12, 2022 - Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® hosted its first inaugural Masquerade Ball Fundraiser. Sponsored by Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation, Incorporated®. The theme Gilded Glamour reigned throughout Gas South District. At the sold-out event, over 400 people dressed in masks were in attendance for an elegant evening filled with live entertainment, a silent auction, prizes and UAO Community Choice Awards. The awards recognized individuals and organizations who have made a notable contribution to Gwinnett County. Congratulations to the Community Impact Awards recipients: BEYOND THE CLASSROOM AWARD – Ms. Delphia Riley; COMMUNITY CHOICE AWARD – Rainbow Village; PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP AWARD – The Honorable Ms. Donna McCloud; RISING SHINING STAR AWARD – Ms. Shawndra Merriweather; HUNGER UNMASKED AWARD – Rev. Dr. Kevin Lee, Sr. Pastor, Berean Cristian Church; UNSUNG HERO AWARD – Mrs. Ladonna Roberts; WE SEE YOU AWARD – Ms. Nicole Love Hendrickson, Chairwoman Gwinnett Board of Commissioners. About Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter
On January 29, 1994, thirty aspiring professional women chartered the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The group gathered to implement and support the international programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as they pertain to the needs of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Today, Upsilon Alpha Omega, the first African-American Greek-letter organization in Gwinnett County is 500+ members strong, and has made a significant impact on the community. Georgette Sherman serves as President. Anika Doucette serves as Vice-President, Dionne Battle serves as 2nd Vice-President.
