LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A woman has been arrested in the 2019 stabbing death of a Lawrenceville man in the 400 block of Lexington Drive, Gwinnett County Police said Thursday.

Police said they were tipped off to Carmen Marie Hunt, a 50-year-old Lawrenceville resident, last year by a family member of 61-year-old Ray Neal, who died in the July 2019 stabbing. The tipster called the Cold Case Unit and told officers they believed Hunt was the person who killed Neal.

Neal was found dead by his sister on July 20, 2019 in a bedroom. His sister last saw him the evening prior but decided to check on Neal after he failed to answer multiple phone calls, police said.

At the home, police said blood was found on the walls, a shower curtain and a bed; but, police said they were unsure if the blood was due to Neal's medical conditions or otherwise.

His body was taken to a funeral home, where police said staff members noticed "some suspicious injuries on his neck."

On July 22, 2019 the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the injuries were stab wounds, police said.

A re-examination of the evidence and new interviews led police to take out warrants against Hunt to charge her on suspicion of felony murder and aggravated assault, police said.

Hunt was already being held at the Gwinnett County Jail for charges relating to a 2022 stabbing, police said.

A motive for Neal's death is unknown.
