On Thursday, Oct. 11, Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash will be on hand to commend the Yellow River Game Ranch for 50 years of operation, and will present an official Gwinnett County proclamation. Game Ranch CEO Art Rilling will also receive the “Golden Antler award” for the Game Ranch’s dedication to animal welfare, and there will also be photo-ops and a cake-cutting.

The Game Ranch is a place that offers the unique experience of face-to-face interactions with various animals. Located in a 24 acre woods, the ranch contains a mile long trail, where friendly birds, bunnies, squirrels, kid goats and white-tail deer are sure to be spotted on the journey. Visitors will also see animals like black bears and buffalos (safely contained away from visitors, of course). More than 600 animals inhabit this wonderful slice of wildlife, including the world famous prognosticating groundhog, General Beauregard Lee.

During their 50 years, the Game Ranch has proven their resiliency. During the epic 2009 flood, the Yellow River Game Ranch was filled with up to 20 feet of water filled the ranch in some places, and many gates and fences were damaged and broken. In the face of such adversity, the staff, managers, and owners were able to account for all 600 animals. Thanks to their quick thinking, they prevented drowning by opening up cages and gates to allow the animals to escape the rising water. Within the month the ranch was up and running once more.

Everyone is encouraged to come and celebrate this great milestone with one of Gwinnett County’s most historic locations!
