The Georgia Sheriff’s Association originated the C.H.A.M.P.S. (Choosing Healthy Activities & Methods Promoting Safety) program in 2003. The program was designed to educate 5th grade students with the guidance, skills, and knowledge to be safe, healthy, and happy in preparation for a successful life.
The C.H.A.M.P.S. program has over 20 topics or lessons to choose from. Out of the 20 topics, instructors teach an eight-week lesson plan, which may include topics such as, Alcohol Abuse, Bullying, Tobacco, Marijuana, Gangs, Peer Pressure, Internet Safety, and Choices & Consequences.
At the conclusion of the program, a graduation is held at each school in celebration of each student’s achievement. Fifth grade students at Atha Rd. Elementary School celebrated their C.H.A.M.P.S. graduation on March 23, 2012.
