Bay Creek shot a team score of 3,131 to outscore 12 other school teams and win the overall highest-scoring team award at the second Georgia regional. Bay Creek’s top overall score also qualified the team for the 7th annual Georgia-NASP State Tournament March 13 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.
Morgan County Middle School won the middle school division with a team score of 2,979 and Lafayette Christian School captured the high school division regional title with a score of 2,970. Both teams qualify for the state tournament by virtue of winning their region’s division.
Individually, Gerard Prep School’s Evan Lubbess arrowed a 278 (out of 300) to win the overall high-scoring male title. Bay Creek Elementary’s Kamra King shot a 271 to win overall high-scoring female, winning a three-way tiebreaker by virtue of bulls eyes shot. Bay Creek’s Jillian Heaster and Lafayette Christian’s Rebekah VanLaarhoven also shot 271, but King’s 11 arrows in the 10-ring broke the tie.
Other top individual shooters included: Lafayette Christian’s Hudson Powell (274, top high school male); Gerard Prep’s Brielle Lubbess (267, top high school female); Bay Creek’s Zachary Patterson (276, top elementary male); and Victory Baptist School’s Kenley Swain (248, top middle school female).
More than 290 students in elementary, middle and high school competed at Regional No. 2. Schools that did not win an automatic berth to state at the regional tournament can still be selected as a high-scoring wildcard team after the final regional tournament is completed in late February. Individual male and female shooters finishing in the top five in 4th, 5th, 6th grades and the middle and high school divisions all qualify for state.
