
Gwinnett County Police Department announced the activation of its Holiday Task Force to run from Black Friday until Dec. 31, 2011.
"The purpose of the task force will be to provide additional visible police presence throughout Gwinnett County with a focus on commercial areas and in the high volume retail shopping areas during the holiday season," officials said in a press release. "The Task Force will utilize every resource available with all efforts being aimed at making our citizens safer."
The Task Force will be working throughout Gwinnett County and will be available for any calls for service. It also will conduct high visibility traffic enforcement as well as police safety road checks with Traffic and DUI Units at various times and locations. The Task Force will also be operating in retail areas in and around the Gwinnett Place Mall, Discover Mills Mall, The Mall of Georgia, Hamilton Mill/I-85 corridor, Stone Mountain Highway and the Scenic Highway/SR 124 corridor.

GCPDt is reminding everyone to stay vigilant and be aware of their surroundings, and to be aware of any unscrupulous people aiming to take advantage of unsuspecting people.
"Every member of this department will do its best to ensure a safe holiday for all Gwinnett County citizens and visitors," the press release reads. "Happy Thanksgiving."
