Grayson Student Receives Citizenship Scholarship

The parents of Heather Davis of Grayson can't hide their pride in the achievements of their daughter, and it's easy to see why. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Davis was one of $1,000 scholarship winners of the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship from RBS Citizens Financial Group (Charter One/Citizens Bank). The money will go toward the masters degree in social work she is currently pursuing through GA state.

After graduating from UGA, Davis moved to Columbia, SC to mentor underprivileged nineth grade students in an effort to help them stay in school and graduate. This was through a City Year Americorps program. She graduated from that program in July 2012 and, because of her efforts, was chosen for second place in the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship program through Citizens Bank. She is now scheduled to begin classes at GA State in the fall.

The TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship that Davis was a recipient of was launched in 2011 to award scholarships to college students whose volunteer efforts have made a difference in their communities. Applicants had to write an essay or record a video explaining the responsibility and leadership skills that they developed through their community service experience. Davis' application detailing her work through Americorps helped earned her second place in the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship.
