Curry Sole Qualifier to Finish Up Nunley's Mayoral Term
When the qualifier to serve out the remaining term of the late Mayor Ray Nunley closed at noon Wednesday, Dan Curry was the only person to qualify.

Former Councilman Dan Curry was the sole qualifier to serve out the remainder of the late Mayor Ray Nunley's term. Nunley passed away Tuesday after battling cancer since a diagnosis in November last year.
According to Loganville Elections Superintendent Kristi Ash, there will still be an election on June 18 and Curry's name will be on the ballot. , to qualify for the mayor's post. Ash said he will be sworn in sometime after the June election. Councilman Mark Kiddoo was voted vice mayor at the last city council meeting. Prior to that, Curry was vice mayor and was serving as acting mayor in Nunley's absence.
There will be qualifiers next week to fill the unexpired term of Curry's seat, which runs until the end of 2015. Former District 2 Walton County Commissioner and also a former councilman Chuck Bagley and newcomer Jay Boland have already announced that they will be candidates for the unexpired term of Curry's seat on the council.

Nunley had thrown his support behind Curry's bid for the mayoral seat at the time that he announced he wouldn't be able to run for re-election in November 2013.
"I would like to say that I fully support Dan Curry - he has the foresight and integrity and I fully endorse him," Nunley said at the time. Nunley had announced on Feb. 14 that he would not be seeking reelection. He had broken the news of his cancer diagnosis at the November 2012 city council meeting.

Curry will have to run again in November if he wishes to serve a new four-year term as mayor. There also will be elections in November for the city council posts currently occupied by Councilwomen Michelle Lynch and Councilmen Rey Martinez and Mark Kiddoo.
