Election Day 2018: Gwinnett County General Election Results

Gwinnett County voters headed to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in the Nov. 6 general election.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Riding a Gwinnett County Democratic wave, two Democrats defeated two incumbent Republicans for County Commission seats in Districts 2 and 4, and a Democrat also defeated an incumbent Republican for Solicitor General. Gwinnett voters gave the go-ahead to Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages by the drink beginning at 11 a.m., rather than 12:30 p.m., and also gave the nod to school bonds.

Democrat Brian Walton Whiteside will be Gwinnett's new Solicitor General after earning more votes than incumbent Republican Rosanna M. Szabo. Whiteside earned 158,945 votes, or 54.21 percent, while Szabo earned 134,258 votes, or 45.79 percent of the vote.

Democrat Ben Ku defeated incumbent Republican Lynette Howard for Gwinnett's County Commission, District 2 seat. Ku earned 35,183 votes, or 54.02 percent, while Howard earned 29,657 votes, or 45.74 percent. District 2 covers much of western Gwinnett, including the Norcross, Peachtree Corners and Lilburn.

Ku is a software consultant and Georgia Tech graduate. He says he is committed to bringing rapid transit and other transportation improvements to Gwinnett County.

Incumbent Republican Rob Woodall took on Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux, in Georgia's 7th Congressional District, which contains parts of Forsyth and Gwinnett counties.

Woodall earned 136,788 votes, or 50.46 percent, while Bourdeaux earned 134,306 votes, or 49.54percent.

In Gwinnett County Board of Education races:

In District 2, Republican Steve Knudsen defeated Democrat Wandy Taylor.

In District 4, Republican C. “Chuck” Studebaker was defeated by Democrat Everton “EJ” Blair Jr.

In Georgia’s 4th Congressional District, Rebuplican Joe Profit was defeated by Henry C. “Hank” Johnson Jr. As of 1:30 a.m., with 94.97 percent of the vote in, Profit had earned 58,291 votes, or 21.35 percent, while Johnson earned 214,743 votes, or 78.65 percent.
