CBS is showing “Elf on a Shelf” at 8:30 p.m. tonight, a 30-minute movie based on the 2005 best-selling book written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter, Loganville’s own Chandra Bell.
The book, which sold more than 1.6 million copies, hankers back to the family’s Scandinavian roots. It features the family's own tradition involving an elf whose presence helped keep the children well-behaved in order to qualify for Christmas presents.
After self-publishing the book in 2005, strong sales prompted Hollywood Production companies to take it seriously. The Atlanta Journal Constitution recently featured the family and the story behind the making of the movie.
