FBI Nabs Violent Gang Member Wanted In 'Storage Space' Murders

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA -- The FBI announces the arrest of Robert Maurice Carlisle, aka “Different, of Lithonia. Carlisle was taken into custody on a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution as a result of a tip from the public.

He was wanted by the Gwinnett County Police Department on state warrants for two counts of Concealing the Death of Another, two counts of murder, and two counts of participating in criminal gang activity.

Carlisle, 32, was arrested by the FBI’s SWAT team with assistance from the DeKalb County Police Department at a residence in Stone Mountain, GA on the evening of Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was wanted in connection with the deaths of Derrick D. Ruff, 25 and Joshua L. Jackson, 25. Their bodies were found inside a storage unit at the Extra Space Storage located at 2040 Lawrenceville Highway in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Both victims died from gunshot wounds. Ruff and Jackson were reported missing to the Athens-Clarke County PoliceDepartment last December.

Carlisle is currently being held at the Gwinnett County jail. Further questions about the case should be directed to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The FBI thanked the news media and the billboard campaign by the Outdoor Advertising Association of Georgia for their assistance as the tip that led to Carlisle’s arrest was a direct result of the fugitive publicity they provided.

be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
