GWINNETT COUNTY, GA -- A man has been given a life sentence, with the first 25 years to be served in confinement, for the rape and molestation of a 12-year-old his grandmother was babysitting, according to the Gwinnett DA's Office.

In June 2015, the victim’s mother and older brother reported to Gwinnett County Police that the 12-year-old girl had been sexually abused by Ruben Valenzuela Alvarado, 24. Valenzuela Alvarado is the grandson of the victim’s babysitter, according to the DA's office. The girl disclosed the abuse after her brother saw text messages between his sister and Valenzuela Alvarado.

The brother posed as his 12 year sister in a conversation with Valenzuela Alvarado, in which Valenzuela Alvarado was trying to entice the child to commit sex acts. The 12-year-old girl gave a detailed forensic interview of the sexual acts committed by the Valenzuela Alvarado, according to the DA's Office. Valenzuela Alvarado in his interview, denied any sexual contact with the girl. The subsequent police investigation revealed that evidence from Valenzuela Alvarado's phone had been deleted after his interview, according to the DA's Office.
