Gwinnett Carjacking Suspect Captured, In Custody: Sheriff

A Decatur man wanted in connection with a carjacking spree in Gwinnett County was arrested Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A Decatur man is being held in the Gwinnett jail without bond in connection with a string of carjackings throughout the county.

Sergio Javontae Wilkerson, 28, was arrested Friday in Lithonia with help from DeKalb County, according to a statement from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office. Wilkerson is charged with multiple counts of hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, armed robbery and participation in gang activity, all felonies.

Wilkerson also had an outstanding federal warrant against him from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and he was wanted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Wilkerson’s capture culminated an eight-month investigation that started late last year with three carjackings in Gwinnett County.
