Gwinnett School Mask Policy No Longer Mandatory, But 'Strongly Encouraged'

As students begin a new week of school, the universal masking mandate has been dropped in Gwinnett County, according to the District.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA β€” As students in Gwinnett County returned to the classroom Monday, they now have the option to wear a mask.

Gwinnett County Public Schools announced on Friday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has dropped its universal school mask mandate. It’s only recommended for communities with a high level risk. Gwinnett County is a β€œLow” level of spread, according to the school district.

β€œAt this level, individuals are encouraged to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and to get tested if they have symptoms,” the District said.

The District said masks will be β€œstrongly encouraged” but not required.
