A Week After Accident, Usher's Former Wife's Son Continues to Cling to Life

The family of Kyle Glover, the youth who was injured in a collision Friday on Lake Lanier, has asked for prayers for the youth, according to CNN.com.

"We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," Glover's family said in a statement to CNN. That was Tuesday, and two days after reports had claimed the 11-year-old brain dead. However, a full week after the accident, the youth remains in a critical condition yet still fighting for his life, according to reports.

The youth's mother is Tameka Foster Raymond, the ex-wife of entertainment superstar Usher. His father is Ryan Glover, a former executive with Turner Broadcasting and now an executive with Bounce TV, a network that caters to African-Americans. Bounce TV's founders include Martin Luther King III and former Atlanta mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young.

The Glover family has held vigil at the hospital since the accident on Friday, July 6. Usher reportedly visited the hospital early Saturday, but had not returned since.

"We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kyle up, as it's the best way we can all support him now," the family statement to CNN continued.

But after that type of a diagnoses, recovery is rare. However, it is not unheard of. In 2008, Lifesitenews.com reported the story of a 65-year-old woman in Minnesota who regained consciousness after being declared brain dead. She recovered after having life support removed and being taken home to die. In April this year, the U.K. Telegraph did a follow up story of a now 21-year-old who had been declared brain dead by four doctors when he was 17. His father refused to give up and just five weeks after a last ditch attempt to bring him out of a medically induced coma, he was released from the hospital. He is now considered to have made a near-full recovery.

In the local area, earlier this year some considered the recovery of miraculous. The Walton County teen spent more than a month in the ICU in a Florida hospital following a spring break car accident. Garcia's injuries also were the result of severe head trauma. There is also the case of Snellville resident who nearly died as a result of a flesh eating bacteria following a zipline accident.
