Loganville, American Legion Post 233 to Celebrate Veterans Day

Loganville and the American Legion Post 233 are collaborating for the city's annual Veterans Day celebration with guest speakers, flags and more. 

The affair will take place at 11 a.m. Monday (Nov. 11) on the front lawn of Loganville City Hall. The local American Legion color guard will do a presentation of the flags, and the Legion's 10th District Chaplain Pat Buchanan will open the ceremony with an invocation followed by Loganville Mayor Dan Curry.

Other great local and district speakers include Janet McInTosh, Tony Price, Andrea Lynch and Commander Jim Carmona.

Janet McIntosh is the veteran speaker of the day. As an eight-year U.S. Army veteran and wife to a staff sergeant, McIntosh is a mother of two and a super volunteer in the community.

She has devoted her Army wife life to making this journey easier for other spouses. She has served as an Army Community Service Army Family Team Building instructor, an Army Family Action Plan facilitator, and has been in several Family Readiness Groups. She sat on the board of the Fort Eustis Spouses’ Club for two years and also volunteers on two PTA boards in the Loganville community.

McIntosh currently works for the non-profit Blue Star Families as their Books on Bases Program manager. The program supports military children and their education by giving out free books to military kids across the nation and overseas. Janet also volunteers as a core team member for Army Wife Network, which provides interactive empowerment for Army spouses. Janet was named the 2013 Unique Installation Spouse of the Year for the Army by Military Spouse Magazine.  

Twelve-year-old Andrea Lynch also will be speaking at the event. The preteen, who's the daughter of Capt. Michael Lynch and Loganville City Councilwoman Michelle Lynch, will offer a reflection highlighting what Veterans Day means to her as a military child.

Tony Price of Tim Stewart Funeral Home is the event's guest speaker and will introduce President Sandy Wittenmeyer and past President Barbara Wade of the American Legion Post 233 Auxiliary to lay the wreath. Price is actively involved in honoring veterans through various community outreach programs.

Wittenmeyer and Wade will represent the local American Legion Auxiliary as they honor all veterans who have fallen. This year the auxiliary was awarded the National President’s Award for Excellence from current National Auxiliary President Peggy Thomas.

Commander Jim Carmona of Loganville's American Legion Post will address the attendees before Chaplain Buchanan offers the closing prayer.

Attendees will then be invited back to the American Legion Post for a complimentary lunch provided by Tim Stewart Funeral Home following the event. The post is located at 4635 Atlanta Hwy. in Loganville.
