Loganville Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Grayson Wreck

A 21-year-old was arrested Wednesday after last week's fatal head-on collision in Grayson.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office arrested a Loganville man Wednesday (Nov. 6) in connection to a fatal car wreck near Grayson.

According to Gwinnett County Jail records, Thomas C. Embry, 21, has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless conduct, improper/erratic lane change, motor vehicle on the wrong side of the road, failure to exercise due care and vehicle seat belt required for front seat. His bond totals to nearly $8,000.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, which occurred Friday (Nov. 1) around 10:30 p.m. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, Embry's pickup truck failed to maintain its lane and slammed headfirst into a Nissan Quest on Highway 78 near Haynescrest Drive.

The driver of the van, U’Lawnda R. Lewis, 40, of Snellville, died at the scene.

Both Embry and a 17-year-old in Lewis' car were transported to the hospital. Embry complained of injuries, and the teenager had a head laceration.

The AJC reports that Embry had been trying to take off his jacket and was distracted when the collision occurred. He was released from jail Wednesday night after posting bail.

Lewis was preceded in death by her mother and is survived by her husband, Ronnie Lewis Sr., of 10 years, according to her obituary. Read her full obituary on Patch.
