New Loganville Mayor and Councilman to be Sworn In

Newly elected Mayor Dan Curry and Councilman Jay Boland will be sworn in Thursday and immediately face a couple of hot button issues in the community.

One of the first items on the Agenda at Thursday’s July City Council meeting in Loganville will be the swearing in of newly elected Mayor Dan Curry and newcomer to local politics, Jay Boland. The two will then plunge right into city business, which has a couple of contentious items on the agenda.

First is an annexation, rezoning and variance for Town & Country Pet Salon at 4826 Highway 81 in Walton County. Some residents are in support of it, but some of the neighbors are not. Another problem the applicant faces is the possibility that the city council will approve the annexation from Walton County into the city, and then deny the rezoning and variance.

The applicant, Paige Wilbanks, is looking to board dogs at the location. Walton County does not allow it. At the time of the annexation Wilbanks will not know  whether or not the city of Loganville will allow it either. The city cannot vote on the rezoning until it has annexed the property.

Another item the City Council will consider Thursday is whether to place a moratorium on future multi-family housing developments. The moratorium will give the city attorney time to look into whether or not the curtailing of future multi-family residential developments would still keep the city in compliance with affordable housing regulations.

The City Council meeting is a 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Loganville City Hall, 4385 Pecan Street. The public is invited.
