No Substantiated Threat at South Gwinnett Says School Board

Police were alerted earlier this week to graffiti on a restroom at South Gwinnett High that implied something would happen on Thursday at the school.

Exactly what was written on the wall was not released, although it was considered a threat.  

The school notified the proper authorities, which included , and took appropriate precautions. Additional security was in place on campus and the building was searched, but no explosive materials were found. 

"Rumors were growing and feeding on each other," said Gwinnett County Public School spokesperson Sloan Roach.  

Students were reportedly texting their parents about their concerns and fears, causing anxiety and uncertainty.  If a parent is concerned about a situation, Roach recommends always calling the school for an update. 

Snellville Patch reader Tricia Rawlins expressed concern about the lack of communication to the parents about this event. 

"The children are texting their parents saying that they are scared," wrote Rawlins. "Thank goodness that we have a Police Department that is willing to communicate with the community that it serves. What about our Gwinnett County School system? Shouldn't they communicate and let the parents know when a bomb threat has been received to the school that their child attends?"
